No matter which you choose, you’ll get all the coverage of Original Medicare, plus extra health and wellness benefits, and prescription drug coverage, too.

Blue Cross Medicare Advantage (HMO) ^SM Plans – our most affordable option

• Usually have low or $0 monthly premiums
• Include prescription drug coverage
• Offer extra health and wellness benefits like vision, dental, hearing, fitness and more
• Require you to choose a primary care physician (PCP) from the plan’s network
• May require you to get a referral from your PCP before visiting a specialist
• May include a Part B Premium Reduction benefit. This benefit reduces the Medicare Part B premium that you pay to the Social Security Administration either monthly or quarterly, depending on how you pay your Part B premium

Blue Cross Medicare Advantage (PPO) ^SM Plans – coverage with more flexibility

• Offer a suite of PPO options
• Keep your costs lower when you use in-network providers
• Provide the freedom to see doctors, hospitals and providers outside of the plan's network, no referrals needed, but you may pay higher copays and coinsurance
• Offer extra health and wellness benefits such as vision, dental, hearing, fitness and more
• Options include an open-access plan allowing the flexibility to see doctors, hospitals, and providers inside or outside of the plan's network with no copays or coinsurance for medical services
• Choose from options that may or may not include drug coverage
• Plans may include a Part B Premium Reduction benefit. This benefit reduces the Medicare Part B premium that you pay the Social Security Administration either monthly or quarterly, depending on how you pay your Part B premium.
• Medicare Advantage plans may offer a preloaded flexible spending card to help reduce your out-of-pocket expenses for covered dental, vision, and hearing services. It's the easy way to pay for healthcare without having to pay cash up-front

Explore our Premium Discounts

A Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) Medicare Supplement premium discount may be available. Eligibility criteria are described below. If you are eligible for a discount, the discount will be applied to your next bill and remain in effect as long as you are enrolled in your BCBSTX Medicare Supplement Plan. Discounts cannot be combined; only one type of discount per member is permitted.

Household Discount

You may be eligible for a discount if you reside with a spouse or civil union/domestic partner or have resided with as many as three adults age 60 or older for the last 12 months. Applies to BCBSTX Medicare Supplement policies issued with an effective date on or after January 1, 2020.

Continue With Blue^SM Discount

You may be eligible for a discount if you enrolled in a BCBSTX Medicare Supplement policy issued with an effective date on or after May 1, 2022 and you were enrolled in a Blue Cross and Blue Shield commercial group or individual health insurance coverage plan and that coverage was within one year of your BCBSTX Medicare Supplement policy becoming effective.

Blue Family Discount^SM

You may be eligible for a discount if you enrolled in a BCBSTX Medicare Supplement policy issued with an effective date on or after January 1, 2020 and you meet the criteria for both the Household Discount AND the Continue with Blue Discount.

Prescription Drug Coverage

Original Medicare and Medicare Supplement plans do not include prescription drug coverage. For this important coverage, Medicare works with insurance carriers to offer Part D, which is a standalone prescription drug plan.
